Mitigating risk in outpatient consultations

Taking place on Wednesday, 24 September from 9.30am to 12.30pm, this three hour course is designed for hospital doctors undertaking outpatient consultations

Content will explore common issues which contribute to risk in outpatient care, including factors associated with:

  • The organisation, team and working environment
  • The patient
  • The interface with other providers
Following on from recommendations arising from the Paterson Inquiry, the importance of communicating in writing with patients about their treatment and care in language they can understand will be explored.

Case studies will be used to illustrate hazards within shared-decision-making, challenging patients, communication and record keeping.

This course is led by Annabelle MacGregor, Medical Adviser at MDDUS and Liz Price, Head of Training, CPD and Risk Advisory Services at MDDUS.

This course has been accredited by the Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK for 3 CPD credits.
