Confidentiality for hospital doctors

Taking place on Thursday, 13 March between 9.30am and 12.30pm, this 3 hour course will explore what is expected of doctors in relation to confidentiality

This interactive 3 hour course will address the regulatory, ethical and professional requirements for doctors in relation to patient confidentiality and will explore and illustrate common risk areas in this wide ranging and challenging topic. Breaches of confidentiality are unfortunately commonplace in healthcare, and often have statutory consequences under data protection law.

Through the use of case examples and group discussion delegates will gain a better understanding of how to mitigate risks associated with organisational processes, the sharing and disclosing of patient information and new ways of working such as remote consulting.

The course will cover specific areas including; understanding parental rights, disclosures which are required by law or in the wider public interest, patients accessing their own clinical information, dealing with data security breaches, and managing deceased patients personal information.

We will also examine how patient information may be shared safely with other health care professionals and other external agencies.

This course has been accredited by the Federation of the Royal College of Physicians of the UK for 3 CPD credits.
