This course is designed to support the range of clinicians in working in primary care teams, as well as managers and other non-clinical roles who work with them.
Primary care teams continue to grow and evolve at pace, and we hear regularly from members that multiple professions working together with a range of different skillsets can often be a challenge. We also see complaints, claims and regulatory cases arising at the interfaces between roles. This course aims to highlight the main risks when working in multidisciplinary teams in primary care, and offers tips on how to mitigate these and improve effectiveness.
Via a mix of presentation, case studies and small group discussion, the following will be explored:
The range of professional guidance in relation to working in MDTs.
The areas of practice in which risks commonly occur and how they can be mitigated including:
- Access to the most appropriate clinician
- Scope of practice
- Role transitions to primary care
- Supervision, training and induction
- Delegation – accountability vs responsibility
- Monitoring and follow-up of patients
- Role transitions to primary care
- Record keeping
- Prescribing
- Referral and signposting
At the end of this course delegates will feel better equipped to recognise areas of risk within their own MDT and to work with their own team to mitigate these.
This course will be led by Kay Louise Grant, MDDUS risk adviser.
Upon completion, a certificate detailing 3 hours of verifiable CPD will be provided by MDDUS to all attendees.
