• MDOs provide assistance to medical students and doctors should they face any medicolegal problems throughout their career.  This can include investigations, inquiries, complaints, disciplinaries and criminal proceedings relating to clinical practice. 
• MDOs also provide indemnity against clinical negligence claims that fall outside of the scope of any NHS indemnity schemes.  This means doctors are financially protected if they are sued. 

• MDDUS is proud of its mutual membership status. This means we operate solely for the benefit of our members, instead of paying profits to shareholders. Our members’ subscription fees are reinvested to prioritise protecting their careers, reputations and financial security. 

• While it is not a regulatory requirement to join a MDO as a student, it is recommended. 
• If a complaint is raised against you while on clinical placement, or if you are the subject of a fitness to practice investigation, you will have peace of mind knowing that MDDUS is on your side. 

• Student membership is completely free.
