Dental care professional numbers on the up

  • Date: 18 August 2023

THE GDC has reported an increase in the number of dental care professionals (DCPs) on the UK Register compared with the downward trajectory of previous years.

Following the 31 July renewal deadline there were 71,769 DCPs on the register, an increase of 2,093 on the equivalent figure for 2022.

There was also a drop in the number of DCPs who did not renew their registration, which was 4.9 per cent of those who had renewed their registration by 31 July compared to an average of 6.4 per cent over the previous four years.

The GDC says the figures provide a useful benchmark for the total number of DCPs registered in the UK but they do not provide insight into the number of professionals working in different patterns (e.g. full time vs part time) or how many DCPs are working in NHS services compared to private practice.
