Rules for LAT recruitment clarified

  • Date: 19 December 2014

GUIDANCE aimed at making it easier to identify vacancies for locum appointment for training (LAT) posts has been published.

Documents have been drawn up detailing the national person specification and framework for recruitment to the 12-month fixed term foundation year two (F2) roles.

The move forms part of a review of the LAT recruitment process designed to make it fairer and easier to use.

Among the main changes is a deadline of July 1, 2015 for accepting an F2 LAT post. This means any posts advertised after the end of May should be advertised as locum appointment for service (LAS) posts.

The Reapplication to Foundation Training form has also been launched this year. This should be completed by any foundation doctor reapplying to a foundation programme (FP) who has previously been removed or resigned from either a two-year FP or a one-year F2 LAT.

The individual doctor is responsible for ensuring the form is completed by the appropriate people and submitted as part of their LAT application.

Foundation schools are not obliged to support an applicant’s reapplication to foundation training, but all applicants must complete and submit this form as part of their application.
