What protection do I need?

State backed indemnity will cover you when you are carrying out clinical work in an NHS Hospital, however you are not protected for any of the following; work done outwith the NHS, representations at inquests, GMC hearings or disciplinary investigations.

That’s where we come in. We can give you the protection you need to allow you to care for your patients with confidence.

Our doctor-for-doctor approach means that we have an understanding of your role, your speciality and the challenges you face.

We provide you with advice from professionally trained advisers and representation from leading medico-legal experts.

Open FAQs
  • Do I need MDDUS membership if I already have NHS indemnity?

    • Yes.  NHS indemnity does not provide assistance with medico-legal issues, such as complaints to the GMC, disciplinaries and criminal proceedings relating to clinical practice.  Some work also falls outside the scope of NHS indemnity, for example, cremation forms and medical reports undertaken as part of NHS placements.

MDDUS membership ensures you are fully protected.

  • How much would I be indemnified for?

    • MDDUS membership provides unlimited indemnity.  We will not decline to assist a member purely because of cost.

  • What is a mutual organisation?

    • MDDUS is a mutual organisation, meaning that we are wholly owned by our members.  We have no shareholders and pay no dividends, so we can prioritise protecting, supporting and safeguarding the interests of our membership.
