MDDUS is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Society of Occupational Medicine (SOM) to provide cost effective indemnity membership benefits for doctors working in occupational medicine.
MDDUS has developed membership grades that will mean members of both the SOM and MDDUS benefit from a five per cent discount in their indemnity membership subscription on an already very competitive subscription level.

Occupational medicine doctors will be able to take advantage of ‘claims’ or ‘non-claims’ membership, depending on their circumstances.
Mr Sturgeon added: "Claims membership provides access to indemnity for claims brought by individuals and/or the companies that employ them as a result of a doctor’s assessment of individuals. Non-claims membership, meanwhile, is for occupational medicine doctors who do not require indemnity for claims because they are protected by an employer’s indemnity arrangements.
"Members can also seek 24/7 advice and support with medico-legal and ethical scenarios, regulatory matters, complaints and certain criminal investigations that might arise from professional practice."
In order to provide access to claims membership, MDDUS generally requires members to be on the relevant GMC specialist register or on the GP register. Recognising that occupational health physicians may come from a range of clinical backgrounds, we will consider applications from doctors who are not on the GP or specialist register.
As a guide, doctors would be expected to hold at least the diploma in occupational health and be able to demonstrate two years’ experience of working in occupational medicine.
