MDDUS is reporting another year of significant growth in dental membership, which increased by 30 per cent in England, Wales and Northern Ireland in 2017.
MDDUS now has more than 7,000 dental members and a fifth of the UK market share, while Scottish membership increased by 3.8 per cent to maintain two-thirds of the market share.
Figures from the MDDUS Annual Report and Accounts 2017 reveal a year-on-year increase of 13.7 per cent in total membership. This upward trend has continued in 2018 with active membership at the end of June standing at over 47,000.
MDDUS head of dental division Aubrey Craig said: "MDDUS continues to offer personalised, rapid and flexible service in dento-legal advisory work, support for members in legal proceedings and day-to-day handling of subscriptions and queries.
"Increasing numbers of dentists are putting their trust in our professionalism, responsiveness and value in an increasingly tough environment where claims and GDC referrals continue to rise.
"Over the past year, our team has successfully maintained the registration of 100 per cent of members engaged with the GDC relating to fitness to practise (FtP) issues, where the member has requested support and assistance, in matters relating to the practice of dentistry. We’ve also ensured that a far greater number of complaints do not progress to a FtP hearing.
"As well as advice and support to members, our dental team engages with the GDC in various stakeholder and workshop events, providing valuable input and learning. Bespoke CPD is also provided to individual dental practices."
