THE Royal Medical Benevolent Fund has launched its annual Christmas President’s Appeal in support of doctors, students and their families in crisis.
The RMBF is a UK charity for doctors, providing financial support, money advice and information when it is most needed due to age, ill health, disability and bereavement. The RMBF provides support for doctors and their families through all stages of their career and beyond. Help ranges from financial assistance in the form of grants and loans to a telephone befriending scheme for those who may be isolated and in need of support.
The RMBF relies on voluntary donations - the money raised comes from fellow doctors and their families.
In launching this year's appeal, RMBF President, Professor Dame Parveen Kumar, said: "As a safety net for doctors, the RMBF has delivered aid to medics with compassion and integrity for over 180 years, and in a time of increasing pressure on the profession, this is sorely needed. Please, if you are able, consider giving a gift to help doctors, medical students and their families in hardship. Your support really does mean the world to our beneficiaries.
"I am always heartened and humbled to see how doctors come together in support of colleagues. The vast majority of our donations come from doctors and their families: from those who recognise how tough a career in medicine can be, and who want to ensure that every doctor has somewhere to turn when misfortune strikes."
