MDDUS, the fastest-growing medical indemnifier in the UK, is pleased to announce the appointment of Stephen Henderson to the post of Head of Dental Division.
Stephen has been with MDDUS as a Dento-Legal Adviser since February 2018, having worked in the professional indemnity industry for almost 20 years prior to that. In his position as Head of Dental, he will be integral to MDDUS’ efforts to support the existing body of dental members and expanding MDDUS’ dental membership base.
Stephen will take up post from today, Monday 15 June, and follows Aubrey Craig in this role, who steps into a new position at MDDUS as Senior Dento-Legal Adviser.
Stephen is a Specialist in Oral Surgery and brings an extensive range of experience and expertise to the role as Head of MDDUS’ Dental Division, having first qualified in London in 1984. Following five years in full-time hospital practice, he went in to general dental practice in Oxford. He continued to work part-time in the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Department of the John Radcliffe Hospital until 2000. Since then he developed his medico-legal career, becoming a full-time adviser in 2007, while he converted his practice to a largely private referral oral surgery practice. Until the restrictions put in place as a result of COVID-19, he worked as a visiting specialist in the same practice, and at a practice in Bedford.
His dento-legal career has given him a vast range of experience in managing complex cases, including providing support for members in responding to investigations raised by international regulators. Additionally, Stephen has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals, and has lectured widely in the UK and internationally on the legal aspects of dental and oral surgery practice.
Upon taking up post as Head of MDDUS’ Dental Division, Stephen commented:
“I am delighted to be taking up post as Head of MDDUS’ Dental Division, and following in the footsteps of Aubrey Craig, who together with his team, has done a fantastic job over the last 11 years. I will be looking to build on this excellent work, collaborating with stakeholders to protect the interests of our dental members.
“Both I and MDDUS recognise that this is an extraordinarily difficult time for dental teams right across the UK.
“MDDUS members can rely on us to support and assist them in facing the challenges of returning to work during the pandemic. We also remain available to support our dental members with complaints claims and GDC investigations, where this is required.”
Emma Parfitt, MDDUS’ Director of Advisory and Legal Services, added:
“MDDUS is very grateful for all of the exceptional work Aubrey Craig has done to lead the dental team, and transform the reach and profile of MDDUS externally over the past 11 years. We look forward to continuing to work with him.
“I am very pleased that Stephen has been appointed to the role of Head of MDDUS’ Dental Division. He has an active profile externally, and is very well respected across the industry.
“I am delighted to be working together with Stephen at a time when we are developing our services for dental members and aiming to expand our dental membership base."
